Fond memories of a lovely aunt

Created by Catherine 3 years ago

Mary was my aunt and my godmother.  We only lived a mile or so apart when the family lived in Sutton, so we saw plenty of each other!  Auntie Mary made a lovely speech at my 21st birthday party and was very creative - she made our wedding cake and way back in 1977 she used her creative skills for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee; our families had gone on holiday to Crantock together, Helen’s friend Stella came too, and Auntie Mary came fully prepared, equipped with vast quantities of red, white and blue crepe paper.  She dressed the 3 of us up, all aged 8/9, in red, white & blue with various adornments, incuding sashes that said ‘Maid in Britain’ for the village competition.  Happy memories!  Auntie Mary had a real knack for choosing very original gifts, threw great New Year’s Eve parties, and no tribute to her would be complete without mentioning the annual Christmas highlight - carol singing!  Fond memories, and one thing is for sure, Mary will never be forgotten.
